Staff Software Engineer – Insurance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and execution of systems that support Headway’s insurance functions

• Create systems for identifying patients, estimating prices, matching providers, and processing claims

• Develop data-centric, machine learning-driven platforms for both patients and providers

• Construct systems that gain insights from every interaction

• Guide and mentor engineering teams

• Produce impactful code that lies at the intersection of healthcare data and payer operations

• Develop machine learning models to enhance the accuracy of price estimates

• Create OCR pipelines to process insurance cards and automate eligibility verifications

• Design machine learning systems to identify intricate insurance arrangements

• Create AI agents for claims that analyze denied claims, determine root causes, and autonomously resubmit claims

• Implement human-in-the-loop automation for the credentialing of providers

• A platform-oriented mindset in software engineering

• Capability to construct abstractions that allow teams to operate more efficiently and securely

• Skill in organizing chaotic payer data and establishing dependable reasoning systems

• Proficient coding skills

• Experience transforming ambiguous challenges into deployable software

• Ability to define solutions and collaborate across teams as priorities evolve

• Clear written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency in TypeScript

• Proficiency in Python 3

• Familiarity with React, Remix, or Next.js

• Experience with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Postgres, Redis, or Snowflake

• Experience with AWS, Temporal, or Kafka

• Familiarity with Datadog, Sentry, or PagerDuty

• Experience with AI tools such as Cursor, Claude, Gemini, or Eddy

• Authorization to work in the United States for any employer
