Staff Software Engineer, Healthcare

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of comprehensive software solutions for fulfillment, maintenance, and flight workflows that facilitate Zipline operations across Africa.

• Collaborate with operations, supply chain, finance, and customer-facing teams to streamline workflows and address significant user challenges.

• Oversee backend and frontend delivery for key projects, guiding them from architecture and data modeling through to implementation and production deployment.

• Design modular, distributed, and event-driven systems that can evolve with changing operational and business requirements.

• Develop automated unit, integration, and system testing to safeguard critical inventory, order, and flight-coordination processes.

• Enhance production reliability, observability, and resilience, enabling teams to pinpoint issues and make informed operational choices.

• Boost engineering efficiency through code reviews, design standards, mentoring, and AI-assisted development, testing, and operational procedures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in building and managing production-grade distributed systems.

• Extensive full-stack development expertise with Python, Go, or a similar object-oriented programming language, along with React or a comparable JavaScript framework.

• Proven experience in designing distributed, event-driven systems using Kafka or similar technologies.

• Strong background in database modeling and performance optimization with Postgres.

• A history of creating software that is straightforward, adaptable, resilient, and backed by thorough automated testing.

• Experience in making architectural choices in a rapidly evolving operational landscape and mentoring junior engineers through coaching, pairing, or design reviews.

• Willingness to travel 3-4 times a year to visit our operations in Africa; a desire for more extensive travel or relocation near our operations is advantageous.

• Familiarity with fulfillment, logistics, or warehouse systems is preferred.
