This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Design and architect modules as well as feature areas for Wholesale Electricity Market Management (MMS) applications.
• Facilitate technical design discussions, lead whiteboarding sessions, and conduct design reviews.
• Collaborate effectively with engineering, project, and customer teams to deliver comprehensive solutions.
• Define project scope, estimate effort, and coordinate with the Project Manager to set timelines.
• Assess technology alternatives and make well-informed decisions based on thorough analysis, risk evaluation, and technical compatibility.
• Ensure that technical solutions are scalable, maintainable, and adhere to product solution architecture and standards.
• Acquire a robust understanding of the overall MMS solution and module interactions; act as a subject matter expert in designated areas.
• Design interfaces and manage information exchange between various modules and systems.
• Take responsibility for code quality, performance, and technical deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide technical leadership in an Agile setting and guide a team of 5–7 developers as required.
• Advocate for standardization, reuse, and minimal customization of product functionalities.
• Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to define requirements, manage changes, and ensure successful delivery.
• Mentor team members and assist with complex customer implementations.
• Document technical solutions, troubleshoot problems, and aid in resolving defects and production issues.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• 8 years of professional experience in Market Management Systems (MMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), or a technical lead role within the electric utility sector.
• 6 years of experience working with or for an Independent System Operator (ISO), market participant, or wholesale electricity market vendor.
• Strong knowledge of Market Management Systems, particularly Unit Commitment and Economic Dispatch.
• Experience in analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving issues in Market Management System applications.
• Familiarity with power system applications and/or optimization techniques.
• Knowledge of Oracle RDBMS; experience with PostgreSQL is an advantage.
• Experience in deploying applications in both on-premises and cloud environments.
• Working knowledge of DevOps practices, including GitOps, CI/CD, and source control management.
• Proficiency with tools such as Git, Maven, Jenkins, Artifactory, and Ansible.
• Exposure to Kafka, Kubernetes, and containerization technologies is beneficial.
• Familiarity with logging and monitoring tools like Splunk, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Prometheus, and Jaeger is an asset.
• Understanding of Java programming concepts, Spring Boot, modern web clients such as TypeScript or JavaScript, and RESTful APIs is advantageous.
