Staff Software Engineer, Data Products

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Create and develop the control plane for the curated data lifecycle.

• Implement orchestration that is aware of dependencies, including backfills, restatements, retries, partial failure management, and recovery strategies.

• Determine whether datasets should utilize a model, service, or job and take ownership of the architecture through to production.

• Design agreements between ingestion and curation for comprehensive dataset reasoning.

• Construct alert systems and data quality indicators that identify genuine issues while reducing unnecessary noise.

• Work with Go, Kotlin, Rust, Python, and SQL, choosing the suitable tool for each task.

• Decompose large issues into independently manageable tasks and sequence delivery to release valuable functionality early.

• Produce high-quality datasets from raw chain data through processes of decoding, modeling, and curation.


⛳️ Requirements

• Experience as a backend engineer with a strong background in data systems, or as a data engineer with significant software engineering expertise.

• Proven track record in delivering production services, not just pipelines.

• Experience in constructing or significantly enhancing orchestration and scheduling systems.

• Capability to articulate what fails at scale and the reasons behind it.

• Experience in managing schema evolution and ensuring data correctness with downstream consumers.

• Background in building or managing stateful stream processing in a production environment.

• Proficient in SQL and data modeling skills for large datasets.

• Strong foundation in computer science and understanding of distributed systems.

• Competent in independent debugging and root cause analysis.

• Effective utilization of AI tools with knowledge of their potential failure modes.

• Excellent written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a distributed team.

• Familiarity with dbt or SQLMesh is advantageous.

• Experience with Parquet, Iceberg, or Delta Lake is a plus.

• Background in a company where data is central to the product is a plus.
