Staff Software Engineer – CAM

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of technically challenging and essential areas.

• Establish and lead the technical strategy for new products and platform functionalities.

• Design and deliver full-stack features encompassing backend, frontend, and potentially mobile components.

• Collaborate with product, design, and customer-facing teams to convert ambiguous challenges into actionable technical plans and measurable results.

• Develop and scale systems that support AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and operational workflows.

• Enhance engineering standards through code reviews, design assessments, technical mentorship, and quality leadership.

• Advocate for Samsara’s cultural principles as the organization expands globally and opens new offices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of experience in software design and development, including large-scale production systems.

• Strong foundational knowledge in full-stack development across backend services, APIs, and frontend web or mobile applications.

• Proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks such as Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, and React.

• Experience in leading projects that span multiple teams or organizations from concept through to rollout.

• Proven experience in building AI-powered or data-driven products.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• A history of developing zero-to-one products or significantly enhancing existing systems.

• Experience deploying AI-powered features in production is highly desirable.

• Familiarity with AI-augmented development workflows, including Cursor and LLMs, is preferred.

• Background in operational data such as telematics, sensor data, work orders, or inspections is advantageous.

• Proven ability to mentor senior engineers and positively influence engineering culture is highly regarded.

• Engagement in side projects or contributions to open-source initiatives is a plus.
