Staff Software Engineer, Backend – Marketplace, App Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Accountable for defining the technical strategy for your team over the course of a year.

• Collaborate across various teams throughout the product development lifecycle, working closely with product management, design, and analytics to guarantee technical sustainability.

• Serve as a force-multiplier for your team by defining and promoting technical solutions and operational processes.

• Take charge of your team’s operations and availability by ensuring appropriate monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting systems are established.

• Cultivate a culture of quality and ownership within your team by establishing code review and design standards.

• Contribute to the development of talent within your team by offering feedback and guidance, and leading by example.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in designing, developing, and launching scalable backend systems using languages such as Python or Kotlin.

• A strong history of developing highly available distributed systems utilizing technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.

• Proficient in creating consumer experiences using UI frameworks like React.

• At least 2 years of experience in search or related recommendation engines.

• Proven ability to deliver major features, system components, or phase out existing functionality in a system via a defined technical and execution plan.

• Capable of writing high-quality code that is easily comprehensible and usable by others.

• Thrive in uncertain situations, comfortable navigating from low-level language idioms to the architecture of large systems to grasp how they function.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills that facilitate effective collaboration with our global engineering team.
