Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Create and execute real-time services that meet high throughput and low latency demands, ensuring they are verified, deployed, and operationalized.

• Collaborate closely with stakeholders to comprehend customer requirements and develop straightforward, robust, and scalable solutions.

• Communicate thoughts and ideas effectively in detailed prose to facilitate collaboration with leads, architects, and cross-functional teams.

• Take on the challenge of scaling a complex distributed platform with global points of presence, each focused on high availability, reliability, throughput, low latency, and media fidelity.

• Innovate new approaches to resolve customer challenges within the Voice channel.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 8 years of practical experience in a large-scale, distributed applications environment using JVM-based technologies.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline.

• Strong foundational knowledge in Computer Science, covering data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems.

• Proficient in building RESTful services, API design, and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS).

• Direct experience in designing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines.

• Familiarity with on-call rotations, incident response, and monitoring/alerting tools (Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana).

• Practical experience with cloud infrastructures such as AWS, GCP, OpenStack, or Azure.

• Excellent written communication skills, crucial for effective AI prompting and crafting clear technical documentation (with or without AI assistance).

• Proven capability to critically assess AI-generated code for accuracy, security, performance, and maintainability.

• Hands-on Java expertise with strong fundamentals, capable of architecting, reviewing, and debugging code, whether it belongs to you, a teammate, or an AI agent.

• Demonstrated proficiency in working with AI coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar), with the ability to describe your workflows and provide examples.

• Experience in scaling data tiers using various SQL/NoSQL database and caching technologies.

• Proven experience in scaling production backend systems, with a track record of designing and developing horizontally-scalable, resilient systems that perform well under load.

• A strong team player who is both highly motivated and serves as an inspiring influence on peers.

• Demonstrated technical leadership by influencing architectural decisions, leading cross-functional technical projects, and actively mentoring team members.

• Ability to showcase how you effectively utilize AI to deliver value efficiently.

• Knowledge and experience with the SIP protocol.

• Knowledge and experience with the Stir/Shaken protocol.
