Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Assume responsibility for technically intricate and mission-critical domains.

• Establish and guide the technical strategy for new products and platform functionalities.

• Design and implement full-stack features spanning backend, frontend, and potentially mobile applications.

• Collaborate with product, design, and customer-facing teams to convert vague challenges into technical strategies and quantifiable results.

• Develop and expand systems supporting AI-driven products, encompassing data ingestion, APIs, and operator workflows.

• Elevate engineering standards through code evaluations, design assessments, technical guidance, and practices focused on quality and efficiency.

• Advocate for and integrate Samsara’s cultural values as the organization expands globally.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of experience in software design and development, including large-scale production systems.

• Solid full-stack fundamentals covering backend services, APIs, and frontend web or mobile technologies.

• Proficiency in Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar programming languages and frameworks.

• Experience leading projects that span multiple teams or organizations from inception to deployment.

• Background in building AI-powered or data-centric products.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proven record of developing zero-to-one products or significantly enhancing existing systems.

• Prior experience in delivering AI-powered features in a production environment is preferred.

• Familiarity with AI-enhanced development workflows such as Cursor and LLMs is preferred.

• Experience with operational data including telematics, sensor data, work orders, or inspections is preferred.

• Background in mentoring senior engineers and shaping engineering culture is preferred.

• Engagement in side projects or contributions to open-source initiatives is preferred.
