Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Take charge of architectural decisions that enhance latency, uptime, and client-facing quality metrics.

β€’ Establish tools, workflows, and standards for AI-generated code, alongside defining productivity measurement methods.

β€’ Implement testing standards and observability practices that enable the team to deliver weekly within a SOC 2 environment.

β€’ Resolve shared abstractions, state management, and platform tech debt without hindering delivery timelines.

β€’ Provide mentorship, design feedback, and conduct code reviews that elevate the team's capabilities.

β€’ Assess requirements under pressure before they lead to costly commitments; promote technical quality as a key factor in enhancing client experience.

β€’ Review and refine production standards, interpret results, make informed decisions on actions, and ensure architectural coherence in thinking.

⛳️ Requirements

β€’ Extensive experience in building consumer-facing software at scale, coupled with architectural insight from systems serving real users under significant load.

β€’ Proficient in full-stack development – adept at navigating between frontend, backend, and infrastructure as needed.

β€’ Background in a regulated industry (such as financial services or healthcare) – familiarity with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 compliance as a component of engineering quality rather than an obstacle.

β€’ Proven track record in leading technical decisions: crafting RFCs, fostering alignment, and knowing when to pursue consensus versus making decisive calls.

β€’ Proficient with AI-assisted development tools (like Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) and possess a well-formed perspective on their impact on team dynamics.

β€’ Experience in managing the quality of AI-generated code in production; you've considered when AI outputs meet standards and when human craftsmanship is necessary.

β€’ Experience mentoring senior engineers; your influence at this level is as much about enhancing team capability as it is about your own coding skills.

β€’ Systematic thinker – capable of understanding how technical choices affect product quality and the end-user experience.

β€’ Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical expertise.

🏝️ Benefits

β€’ Competitive compensation package that includes an equity program.

β€’ Comprehensive health and dental benefits, along with life insurance, provided at little to no cost to you.

β€’ Lifestyle Spending Account to support all your wellness needs.

β€’ Flexible paid time-off policy that includes unlimited vacation days and adaptable sick and mental health days.

β€’ Paid parental leave for eligible employees, including a top-up.

β€’ Generous Group RRSP matching and an optional TFSA program.

β€’ Year-round training opportunities and tuition support.
