This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York, +2 more states.
• Lead the design and technical strategy for projects, encompassing large and intricate cross-functional initiatives.
• Collaborate on architectural choices for essential systems, ensuring that solutions are scalable, maintainable, and in harmony with Pearl's long-term technical vision.
• Establish and execute engineering standards, patterns, and best practices that enhance scalability, reliability, and developer efficiency throughout the organization.
• Work together to make strategic compromises between technical debt, feature delivery, and system reliability, clearly articulating the reasoning and consequences of these decisions.
• Design and develop high-performance, distributed systems, including data pipelines, APIs, and microservices that efficiently handle healthcare data at scale.
• Architect user-friendly, responsive web applications and internal tools that empower clinical and operations teams to provide outstanding patient care.
• Ensure observability, monitoring, and operational excellence across distributed services, cloud infrastructure, and frontend applications.
• Leverage extensive knowledge in backend service design (RESTful and event-driven architectures) and contemporary frontend frameworks to deliver comprehensive, production-ready solutions.
• Advocate for security best practices, data consistency patterns, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, SOC2) throughout the entire application stack.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and design leadership to ensure engineering decisions align with company objectives and healthcare outcomes.
• Serve as a technical advisor to multiple teams, offering insights on system design, technology selections, and implementation strategies.
• Influence and facilitate technical discussions across the organization, assisting teams in navigating complex technical challenges and making well-informed decisions.
• Convert business needs into technical strategies, ensuring that engineering efforts directly support Pearl's mission and growth goals.
• Represent the engineering viewpoint in strategic planning, roadmap prioritization, and resource allocation discussions.
• Mentor engineers at Software Engineer I, II, and III levels, fostering their technical development and leadership growth.
• Cultivate a robust engineering culture centered on continuous learning, technical excellence, and adherence to Pearl's Leadership Principles.
• Conduct comprehensive design and code reviews, elevating the standards for technical quality and sharing knowledge generously across teams.
• Exemplify proactive problem-solving, ownership mindset, and a bias for action that motivates others to tackle greater technical challenges.
• Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives, assisting in the growth and scaling of high-performing engineering teams.
• Take ownership of and lead multi-quarter technical projects with autonomy and accountability, ensuring successful delivery in alignment with business timelines.
• Identify and address systemic issues, technical bottlenecks, and cross-team dependencies that affect delivery speed or system reliability.
• Balance speed and quality, making practical decisions that facilitate rapid iteration while upholding engineering excellence.
• Measure and communicate the business impact of technical efforts, linking engineering outcomes to customer value and organizational objectives.
• Over 10 years of experience in full-stack software development, showcasing a proven history in service-oriented architectures and large data systems.
• Proven architectural experience in designing and implementing scalable, distributed systems, including microservices and event-driven architectures.
• A strong leadership background in steering technical direction for significant, cross-functional projects.
• Proficiency in cloud platforms (preferably AWS), including practical experience with infrastructure design, deployment pipelines, and cost optimization.
• Extensive expertise in designing and optimizing data-intensive applications involving large-scale data movement, transformation, and presentation.
• Demonstrated experience in production operations within distributed systems, covering observability, monitoring, incident response, and operational excellence.
• Background in aligning technical decisions with business goals and effectively communicating complex trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience in frontend architecture, including state management, component design systems, build optimization, and deployment strategies.
• Practical experience with AI-enabled development using tools like Cursor, Claude, or other productivity tools to enhance development velocity.
