Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Egypt, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design systems that span multiple teams, considering future use cases and optimizing for minimal change costs instead of focusing solely on the current sprint.

• Facilitate the convergence of shared services across various business units, actively opposing fork-and-diverge practices and minimizing drift.

• Establish standards for code quality, testing, and review processes, including guidelines that enable safe AI-assisted development at speed.

• Lead complex investigations across different domains and mentor others in systematic debugging techniques.

• Take ownership of observability within the domain and cultivate a culture of observability across teams by utilizing operational and business metrics.

• Conduct secure design reviews and collaborate with security teams to implement security strategies, including the management of secrets and personally identifiable information (PII) in accordance with policy.

• Collaborate with fraud and risk stakeholders to develop controls within the domain, balancing fraud losses, chargeback exposure, and customer friction.

• Ensure that epics and inter-team dependencies are properly broken down, comprehended, and resolvable without teams needing to wait on one another; promote short cycle times.

• Mentor across teams, facilitate decisions that span multiple teams, and prioritize engineering work based on strategic objectives while contributing to the overarching engineering strategy of the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in building and operating production software, with a proven history of owning architectures that span multiple teams and endure beyond the organizational structure they were designed for.

• Extensive expertise in at least one of DZ's technology stacks (TypeScript, Go, C#), with the ability to reason convincingly across all of them, along with solid experience in Postgres and AWS.

• Demonstrated success in consolidating forked or duplicated services or in establishing standards that were voluntarily embraced by other teams due to their effectiveness rather than mandates.

• A default application of a security and fraud perspective: fluency in OWASP, secure design instincts, and an understanding of potential abuse scenarios in payment and digital fulfillment environments.

• Ability to influence without authority: capable of building relationships across teams, encouraging constructive disagreement, and guiding a group of strong engineers toward decisions they will genuinely support.

• Sound judgment regarding cost and value, including recognition of where AI can genuinely save time and where it may introduce risks that could have future costs.
