Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Create and implement components for a query engine that focuses on low latency and scalability.

• Lead initiatives to introduce new functionalities in distributed systems, addressing performance and fault-tolerance concepts.

• Develop and implement Impala features for both on-premise and cloud environments.

• Contribute to enhancements in productivity, processes, and infrastructure.

• Collaborate with product managers and customers to gather and understand requirements.

• Analyze large-scale distributed systems to pinpoint performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, failure points, and security vulnerabilities.

• Develop and present architecture and design documentation both internally and to the open-source community.

• Contribute to improvements in software productivity processes and infrastructure.

• Promote Impala through blogs and presentations at conferences.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of professional software development experience; a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.

• Proven experience in leading and delivering complex product enhancements.

• Proficiency in writing high-performance, enterprise-grade code in C++ or Java.

• Familiarity with database concepts and development within Linux environments.

• Strong skills in troubleshooting, debugging, and performance tuning.

• Exceptional communication abilities.

• Prior engagement with the open-source community, particularly with Apache technologies (desirable but not mandatory).

• Experience with data warehousing and/or database internals (desirable but not mandatory).

• Familiarity with cloud platforms, Kubernetes, and cloud object storage (desirable but not mandatory).
