Staff Software Engineer – API Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Creating and developing the foundational infrastructure that links services within Canva's backend engineering organization.

• Spearheading a significant migration of our backend service communication, collaborating closely with partner engineering teams and leaders.

• Enhancing support for additional languages and frameworks to enable more teams to build natively on our platform.

• Taking responsibility for the reliability, performance, and accuracy of systems that are crucial for the entire engineering organization.

• Guiding and mentoring engineers to elevate the technical standards across the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• You have developed and maintained infrastructure that other engineering teams rely on, preferably in the API gateway, RPC, or service mesh domain (high traffic & large-scale).

• You are at ease managing systems where reliability and accuracy are paramount, and you prioritize trade-offs over quick fixes.

• You can lead a technical direction across teams that do not report to you, effectively communicating it to both engineers and the teams that utilize your creations.

• You demonstrate a strong sense of ownership over outcomes, driven by platform work that discreetly simplifies the tasks of others.
