Staff Software Engineer – API Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Design and develop the essential infrastructure that links services within Canva's backend engineering division.

• Spearhead a significant migration of backend service communications.

• Collaborate with partner engineering teams and leadership.

• Advocate for support of additional programming languages and frameworks.

• Take ownership of the reliability, performance, and accuracy of critical-path systems.

• Mentor engineers and elevate the team's technical proficiency.

• Construct and maintain infrastructure for service communication, traffic management, security, and language adaptability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in developing and managing infrastructure utilized by other engineering teams.

• Preferably experienced with API gateways, RPC, or service mesh in high-traffic, large-scale settings.

• Capability to take charge of systems where reliability and accuracy are paramount.

• Proficiency in guiding technical direction across teams and effectively communicating with engineers and platform users.

• Several years of experience managing large-scale, high-transaction production systems in a commercial environment.

• Ideally experienced in working with multiple programming languages.

• A strong passion, curiosity, and eagerness to learn.
