Staff Software Engineer, AI Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage end-to-end AI platform systems.

• Take ownership of essential syndi-api runtime components, which include the agent loop, tool execution and registry, memory, and context management.

• Create the evaluation system, incorporating offline gates and online detector/judge evaluations using production traces.

• Manage production systems through observability, incident response, and enhancements in reliability.

• Assess product teams’ tool wrappers and evaluations.

• Advance the GET /tools registry and the drift-detection contract.

• Define, design, and implement compliance and legal requirements for Syndi.

• Work closely with product-team owners through platform contribution seams.

• Deliver significant runtime capabilities and engage in platform on-call duties.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years experience in building production backend systems.

• Strong proficiency in Python, relational databases, and cloud infrastructure.

• Familiarity with GCP and Kubernetes.

• Experience in developing LLM-powered systems in a production environment, such as agent loops, tool-calling integrations, RAG, or evaluation infrastructure.

• Background in designing for legal compliance, traceability, evaluations, and kill switches.

• Capability to own a technical domain with minimal supervision.

• Proficient in proposing directions in writing with clear API specifications, conducting reviews, deploying systems, and managing the pager for deployed systems.

• Excellent written communication skills.

• Preferred: experience in platform/product relationships, SSE/streaming systems, compliance-related engineering, and previous Staff-level responsibilities.
