Staff Software Development Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +45 more locations.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain backend microservices utilizing Java/JEE and Spring Boot

• Create secure, efficient, and resilient RESTful APIs

• Implement event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka, covering producers, consumers, schema evolution, partitioning, and consumer groups

• Model and exchange data using JSON with comprehensive validation, versioning, and backward compatibility

• Construct and uphold CI/CD pipelines that include testing, static analysis, artifact promotion, and progressive delivery

• Collaborate with Security and DevOps teams to embed automated security controls

• Deploy and manage services on Google Cloud Platform following cloud-native practices

• Employ 12-factor application principles, infrastructure-as-code, and configuration management methodologies

• Integrate backend services with EHR systems and adhere to healthcare data standards

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, data governance, encryption, and platform security

• Take ownership of production readiness, availability, latency, throughput, and cost-effectiveness

• Troubleshoot production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and drive enhancements in reliability

• Implement structured logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and incident response capabilities

• Engage in architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design discussions

• Mentor junior engineers

• Collaborate with product, architecture, security, DevOps, and third-party platform teams

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional software development experience with Java/JEE and Spring Boot

• More than 5 years of experience in building RESTful microservices and distributed systems

• Strong knowledge of REST API design, JSON data modeling, and OpenAPI/Swagger documentation

• Over 5 years of hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads

• Proficient in Docker; Kubernetes experience is preferred

• At least 3 years of managing production services in cloud environments, preferably GCP

• Minimum of 3 years of experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms

• At least 3 years of experience in security fundamentals, including OAuth2/OIDC, TLS, and secrets management

• Strong skills in debugging, performance profiling, and operational troubleshooting

• Experience in healthcare, regulated systems, or large-scale data integration platforms is preferred

• Cloud certification is a plus

• Familiarity with Spanner, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, or similar managed data services

• Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and alerting systems such as Grafana and Splunk

• Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) is advantageous

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; a high school diploma plus 4 years of relevant experience is acceptable
