This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Provide technical leadership and architectural insight across various quantum application initiatives, including the establishment of best practices for benchmarking, performance evaluation, and solution design.
• Create, implement, and enhance innovative quantum algorithms that will yield significant scientific and commercial benefits in fields like computational chemistry, optimization, and machine learning.
• Collaborate with clients and partners to identify and address real-world challenges using IonQ trapped-ion quantum computing technology.
• Identify groundbreaking solutions, rigorously assess their performance, and disseminate findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
• Contribute to the development of team culture and make a lasting impact by supporting initiatives that drive scientific breakthroughs and innovation.
• Over 8 years of professional experience in quantum computing, applied algorithms, or advanced scientific computing, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
• Proven proficiency in Python and/or C++, with extensive, hands-on experience using Qiskit or comparable quantum software development kits.
• Practical experience in developing and optimizing quantum algorithms in domains such as computational chemistry, optimization, and machine learning.
• A history of delivering cutting-edge quantum solutions, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, invited presentations, open-source projects, licenses, and/or patents.
• A thorough understanding of essential quantum computing principles and the capability to communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse range of audiences, including scientists, engineers, business executives, and community members.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects from the initial problem definition to final solution delivery, showcasing strong collaboration and communication skills.
• A Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience with comprehensive ownership of complex quantum application projects, including mentoring interns and offering technical guidance to junior team members.
• Familiarity with variational quantum algorithms and hybrid quantum-classical workloads that utilize CPUs, GPUs, and QPUs.
• Experience in developing high-performance algorithms tailored for NISQ systems as well as error-corrected and fault-tolerant quantum computers.
• Demonstrated capability in quantum algorithm resource estimation, performance benchmarking, and scalability analysis.
• Previous success in collaborating with customers, industry partners, or government agencies to deliver advanced technical solutions.
