Staff R&D Product Development Engineer – Mechanical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee product development initiatives for socket, high-speed connector, and cable assembly solutions from market identification to production launch.

• Work in partnership with customers, sales teams, product management, systems architects, and field application engineers to convert Voice of Customer insights into product ideas and specifications.

• Create product concepts, perform feasibility assessments, and develop technical proposals for clients.

• Conduct mechanical and thermal simulations to assess and refine product designs.

• Generate comprehensive product designs, including 2D and 3D models, tolerance analyses, and DFMEA.

• Construct and validate prototypes, finalize product qualification tasks, and complete product specifications.

• Assist in new product launches, production scaling, and ongoing manufacturing processes by addressing design and process challenges.

• Oversee engineering and product change processes, encompassing ECNs and PCNs.

• Keep abreast of customer applications, market developments, and system-level requirements.

• Aid project teams throughout the LEANPD development process, ensuring quality, cost, schedule, and performance goals are met.

• Offer technical support through testing, troubleshooting, analysis, and verification efforts.

• Collaborate with global manufacturing, procurement, quality, and supplier teams to meet technical, quality, and cost objectives.

• Prepare and manage engineering documentation, product specifications, design records, drawings, and change notices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field, or equivalent professional experience.

• At least 5 years of applicable engineering experience.

• Relevant experience in the design and development of electrical connectors, electrical or electromechanical components, mechanical structure design, manufacturing tooling development, or manufacturing process development.

• Practical experience with connector product development, encompassing material selection, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, product qualification, and validation.

• Experience with socket or cable assembly design is regarded as relevant.

• Strong understanding of electrical connector design, contact physics, plating systems, pore blockers, contact lubricants, copper alloys, and high-temperature plastics.

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software, ideally Creo, including solid modeling, sheet metal design, and creating 2D drawings.

• Familiarity with SpaceClaim, SolidWorks, or similar conceptual development tools.

• Expertise in GD&T.

• Strong skills in tolerance stack-up analysis, limit and fit analysis, and statistical tolerance methodologies.

• Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS Workbench for structural and thermal simulations.

• Ability to create and document product specifications and engineering requirements.

• Comprehensive understanding of machining, molding, stamping, plating, and assembly, emphasizing DFM.

• Knowledge of electrical connector testing methods and qualification protocols.

• Understanding of communication theory, signal integrity, and impedance matching.

• Experience in thermal management related to high-speed signal transmission applications.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Capability to lead technical discussions and influence cross-functional project teams.
