Staff Prototyping Engineer, Android

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Influence the future of Slack mobile by spearheading engineering development for experiences utilized by millions of users each day.

• Direct intricate, ambiguous, cross-functional projects from technical exploration through to production rollout and ongoing evolution.

• Drive feature prototyping to establish mobile user experiences for Slack’s most significant opportunities.

• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to balance user requirements, technical limitations, and maintainability.

• Impact engineering choices beyond the immediate team through technical leadership, product evaluations, and mentorship.

• Establish and promote best practices for mobile feature development and operational excellence.

• Guide senior engineers and engage with the wider mobile engineering community.

• Develop and launch initial iterations of newly conceived, fully functional product features.

• Work together with Backend and fellow mobile engineers on innovative product possibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A relevant technical degree is required.

• 8+ years of experience in professional software engineering.

• Extensive experience in building complex, high-quality Android applications at scale.

• Proven ability to transcend organizational boundaries to initiate new projects, prototype pathways to production, and realign the organization.

• Experience in dynamic settings such as a start-up, incubator, or zero-to-one team.

• Demonstrated success in leading large, complex, organization-wide technical initiatives with significant business impact.

• In-depth expertise in the Kotlin framework and contemporary Android development.

• Strong grasp of Android architecture, application lifecycle, concurrency, networking, and performance optimization.

• Proven ability to influence product and technical directions among executive stakeholders, Engineering/Product/Design leadership, and various teams.

• Familiarity with Jetpack Compose and modern Android architecture patterns is preferred.

• Experience with Combine Concurrency (async/await, actors) and dependency injection frameworks like Needle or Resolver is preferred.

• Experience in leading large-scale new products, features, or product transformations is preferred.

• Background in utilizing research, usability testing, data, and experimentation is preferred.

• Contributions to open source projects or the Android community, or other external recognition of technical leadership is preferred.

• Experience in building collaboration, productivity, messaging, AI, or enterprise software products is preferred.

• Excellent communication skills are preferred.

• Strong product intuition and a passion for outstanding user experiences are preferred.
