Staff Product Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the product vision for tools that enhance Lilly’s expertise for early-stage biotech firms.

• Understand the workflows of biotech users and pinpoint any workflow inefficiencies.

• Conduct discovery through interviews, prototypes, and collaborative sessions.

• Assess issues and determine the sequence of tasks.

• Generate actionable product direction based on discovery insights.

• Manage strategy, scope, roadmap, launch, and post-launch processes comprehensively.

• Draft strategy documents, specifications, and analyses in a hands-on manner.

• Clearly communicate decisions to engineering teams, leadership, and end users.

• Define the scope of the initial release and establish success metrics.

• Ensure that product instrumentation is in place to measure outcomes effectively.

• Provide mentorship to product managers and those in related roles.

• Collaborate with engineering and design teams on recruitment and team standards.

• Set up discovery, specification, and decision-making protocols.

• Negotiate scope and challenge estimates and priorities in collaboration with engineering and design teams.

• Navigate the complexities of enterprise infrastructure, security, privacy, and compliance requirements.

• Integrate Lilly R&D expertise into the product offerings.

• Act as the product representative for technical and scientific end users.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• Over 8 years of experience in product management.

• Proven track record of delivering software that end users depend on.

• Experience functioning as a senior or staff product manager within a small team.

• Proficient in taking a product from inception to launch.

• Capable of translating ambiguous problems from research to scope to a deployed product.

• Experience in conducting customer interviews and roadmap evaluations.

• SQL or similar data skills adequate for defining metrics or assessing market size.

• Familiarity with AI/ML and an understanding of model capabilities and limitations.

• Practical experience in delivering LLM-powered features, encompassing reliability, evaluations, and context management.

• Ability to collaborate with engineers on architectural considerations and trade-offs.

• Experience in small, undefined-roadmap settings.

• Self-sufficient with a broad ownership approach.

• Background in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotech, or health tech, particularly in products designed for scientists or R&D teams.

• Experience in developing B2B SaaS or platform products.

• Familiarity with shipping products into regulated environments and understanding data governance and timelines.
