This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the complete design system, including the Figma component library, React component codebase, interaction patterns, tokens, and documentation.
• Write, deploy, and uphold production-ready React code, ensuring strong code hygiene, effective testing practices, and a clear architectural framework.
• Establish the interaction and visual design language for Cherry's component library, ensuring meticulous crafting of each component.
• Create robust, flexible, and scalable components that empower teams to deliver cohesive experiences without the need to reinvent design patterns.
• Navigate design and engineering tools effortlessly, including Figma or Pencil, as well as AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
• Facilitate seamless collaboration between design and engineering workflows, ensuring the system integrates effectively in both environments.
• Develop workflows that support the rapid evolution of the design system while upholding quality and consistency.
• Aim for a future where every team at Cherry can quickly prototype using production-ready components.
• Collaborate closely with our front-end engineering team in Turkey on component architecture, implementation, and code reviews.
• Work alongside the wider engineering organization to ensure components are user-friendly, well-documented, and ready for production.
• Act as the primary design system partner for the product design team, understanding their needs and guiding them in utilizing and contributing to the system.
• Empower product designers to confidently engage with the system, enabling them to make changes and construct with components instead of working around them.
• Lead the strategy for scaling Cherry's design system, encompassing both the component library and associated processes.
• Outline the roadmap for new components, evolving patterns, and system-wide enhancements.
• Ensure the system minimizes experience risk across all five products, allowing the use of Cherry's components to inherently produce cohesive, high-quality outputs regardless of the surface.
• Champion the long-term sustainability of the system by balancing team requests with architectural integrity and scalability.
• 5-8+ years of experience in product design and front-end engineering, showcasing proficiency in both areas.
• In-depth expertise in React, with strong preferences regarding component architecture, testing, and code quality.
• Exceptional skills in design tools such as Figma or Pencil, including component design, variants, tokens, and management of design systems.
• A keen eye for visual and interaction design, including spacing, motion, hierarchy, and the finer details that enhance component quality.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex, and a willingness to incorporate them into design system workflows.
• Experience in building and maintaining a design system utilized by multiple teams in a production environment.
• Strong grasp of front-end testing practices and code hygiene.
• Ability to work across disciplines, communicating effectively with designers, engineers, and product leaders.
• Experience in collaborating with distributed or international engineering teams.
