Staff Product Designer, AI Design Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as a foundational member of Cherry's design systems team.

• Assist in structuring, staffing, and leading the design systems team as it expands.

• Facilitate the transition to AI-native workflows and promote the adoption of new tools and practices.

• Manage the design system comprehensively, encompassing the component library, tokens, and documentation.

• Take ownership of design direction, component architecture, implementation, and coding outcomes.

• Enhance the system across teams by identifying structural challenges, aligning methodologies, and evolving scalable patterns.

• Shape interaction and visual design decisions across various teams.

• Advance Cherry's design language.

• Create a Claude-first AI design system that generates on-system output by default.

• Contribute to defining Cherry's future design toolset.

• Collaborate with the front-end engineering partner in the USA on architecture, implementation, and code reviews.

• Enhance communication and execution between design and engineering across initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Between 6 to 10 years of experience in product design.

• Genuine, proven coding and technical expertise, not merely familiarity with coding.

• Demonstrated history of guiding visual and interaction decisions across teams.

• Experience in enhancing a design system across different teams.

• A strong perspective on design tooling.

• Proficiency in communicating effectively with designers, engineers, and product leaders.

• Experience leading a small team or function, or readiness to take on this role for the first time.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
