• Makes essential architectural and design choices that impact multiple teams or an entire product area.
• Assesses technology options with a comprehensive understanding of trade-offs at scale, rather than just addressing immediate challenges.
• Establishes technical standards and patterns that can be followed by other engineers independently.
• Detects systemic issues before they escalate into incidents.
• Provides daily technical guidance for one or more scrum teams without holding a management position.
• Tackles ambiguous, high-stakes technical challenges across teams and drives them to successful resolution proactively.
• Maintains a high standard in code and design reviews across team boundaries.
• Defines integration patterns, API contracts, and data exchange standards utilized across product lines.
• Evaluates build-vs-buy decisions for integration infrastructure, which includes API gateways, event streaming, and messaging platforms.
• Designs resilient and observable integration systems that degrade gracefully and recover predictably.
• Promotes the adoption of shared integration infrastructure and sets standards for team onboarding.
• Develops an in-depth understanding of MeridianLink’s product ecosystem, including data flows, dependencies, and integration points across LOS, Account Opening, TazWorks, and partner systems.
• Anticipates how product-level changes affect integration surfaces and identifies risks before deployment.
• Cultivates relationships with product and engineering stakeholders across Consumer, Portal/Access, and related teams to proactively address integration needs.
• Owns the reference architecture for the Platform Integrations layer, which encompasses API standards, event-driven patterns, shared integration service design, and third-party integration frameworks.
• Leads technical due diligence and design reviews for new integration requirements, especially those that span product lines or involve external partners.
• Defines and documents API contracts, integration patterns, and onboarding standards that empower product teams to confidently utilize shared integration infrastructure.
• Influences decisions on integration tooling, frameworks, and platforms in collaboration with the Platform Foundation and Capabilities teams.
• Actively contributes to the implementation of integration services, APIs, and shared libraries utilized across the engineering organization.
• Engages in code and design reviews with a high standard, enhancing quality across the team.
• Develops and maintains tools that expedite integration development and enhance reliability for other engineers.
• Validates and enhances AI-assisted development practices within the integrations domain.
• Authors RFCs and ADRs that document integration design decisions with sufficient clarity and context for long-term utility.
• Establishes and maintains a shared integration knowledge base, which includes runbooks, onboarding guides, and API documentation.
• Participates in architecture reviews for integration-related work occurring in product and platform teams to identify design issues before implementation begins.
• Contributes to platform governance processes to ensure that integration decisions are made through appropriate channels.
• Develops Senior engineers towards a Staff-level scope by providing them with challenges and opportunities that extend their capabilities, not just guidance on current tasks.
• Collaborates with Engineering Managers and Product leadership to align technical decisions with delivery objectives.
• Manages the design and upkeep of technical knowledge infrastructure, which includes RFCs, ADRs, runbooks, and onboarding paths, enabling teams to operate independently without needing to escalate.
• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, demonstrating technical leadership across multiple teams or product areas.
• Proven ability to make and defend architectural decisions at scale.
• Daily active use of AI-assisted development tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and building production-grade integration systems, including RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, or enterprise messaging patterns.
• Experience with API gateway technologies and API lifecycle management, encompassing versioning, contracts, and deprecation.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language relevant to integration and platform contexts (Java, Python, C#, or similar).
• Experience deploying and managing integration workloads on cloud platforms, with a strong preference for AWS.
• Familiarity with event streaming platforms and asynchronous processing patterns.
• Experience with enterprise integration patterns and frameworks at scale across multiple engineering teams.
• Prior experience in a multi-product fintech or financial services environment where integration complexity crosses regulatory boundaries.
• Familiarity with API management platforms and governance tools.
• Experience establishing integration standards or governance processes across multiple engineering teams.
