Software Engineer, Sportsbook Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, scale, and enhance the GraphQL APIs, gRPC endpoints, and SQL queries that drive the marketplace.

• Manage technical challenges of significant scope and complexity, crafting proposals and presenting them to leadership and partner teams for feedback.

• Design, architect, and implement new features from start to finish in a collaborative agile/scrum setting.

• Identify bottlenecks and risks in production, and lead initiatives to enhance the platform's scalability.

• Participate in the Sportsbook Platform Support rotation, handling release management and deployment during your assigned window.

• Establish and refine monitoring and alerting in DataDog for the systems you manage.

• Mentor engineers within the team and across teams who contribute to our codebase, through specifications, pairing, and code reviews.

• Perform additional duties as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in software engineering.

• A strong foundation in computer science, with solid competencies in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design.

• Deep understanding of production systems at scale, with experience in identifying improvement areas in a production environment through load testing and tracing.

• Experience in investigating and resolving production performance regressions, including CPU hotspots and latency regressions in high-throughput services.

• Experience with on-call rotations for a production service, including managing release cycles from start to finish.

• A passion for clean code architecture and software craftsmanship.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of producing tech specs, runbooks, and cross-team design documents that withstand scrutiny.

• Familiarity with modern web frameworks and API development (Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, Fast API, Laravel, Node).

• Experience in designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for product surfaces utilized by multiple clients (iOS, Android, Web).

• Experience in building and integrating multi-client / white-label platforms, including geo-based routing and per-client configuration.

• A strong understanding of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL.

• Experience with Kubernetes and proficiency in operating services within a containerized environment.

• Comfortable working in the terminal, with Git and GitHub or similar tools, and using an editor of your choice.

• Experience with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest, or equivalent.

• Experience with background job processing (Oban, Exq, Sidekiq, Celery, Beanstalk).

• NICE TO HAVE: experience building GraphQL APIs with Absinthe, familiarity with hexagonal architecture, Domain Driven Development, contributions to open source software, experience working at startups, and a passion for sports and/or esports.
