Staff Machine Learning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop the long-term technical roadmap for pricing innovation utilizing machine learning tools and workflows.

• Collaborate with researchers to enhance research and development workflows from data preparation through feature engineering, model fitting, deployment, diagnostics, and monitoring.

• Establish architecture and versioned contracts that link data, features, models, and production pricing.

• Automate comprehensive workflows using large language model technology for autonomous data science workflow automation.

• Write and evaluate code in essential platform components.

• Lead technical design across systems and manage inter-team dependencies.

• Mentor senior engineers on architecture, platform design, and best practices in machine learning engineering.

• Set benchmarks for reliability, observability, reproducibility, and accuracy.

• Oversee long-term architectural design, technical strategy for the platform, and ensure technical consistency over time.

• Collaborate with platform teams, Data Science, and Actuarial departments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• Proven history of designing and delivering business-critical machine learning platforms, data platforms, or similarly intricate distributed systems.

• Architectural stewardship of production machine learning infrastructure, which includes feature pipelines/stores, model training and orchestration, model registries and versioning, model serving, or research-to-production infrastructure.

• Strong expertise in system design and distributed systems.

• Experience in designing reliable, scalable data processing systems with well-defined interfaces between complex systems.

• Familiarity with reproducibility, lineage, versioning, training-serving consistency, and production accuracy.

• Working knowledge of the machine learning lifecycle and engineering considerations for training, evaluating, deploying, and operating production models.

• Ability to define technical direction in ambiguous problem areas and convert architectural objectives into actionable plans.

• Proven ability to create technical leverage across multiple teams through shared platforms, abstractions, standards, or tools.

• Ability to influence technical direction across teams without direct authority and mentor senior engineers.

• Experience working collaboratively with Data Scientists and researchers.

• Proficient in Python and contemporary machine learning and data tooling.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Preferred: Knowledge of machine learning and statistical modeling, common machine learning algorithms/frameworks, model development speed, regulated or data-intensive fields, quantitative research platforms, and large language models or autonomous systems.
