This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Define the technical roadmap for Payabli's model portfolio by advancing existing transaction and merchant risk models and developing new models throughout the payments lifecycle.
• Implement experimentation workflows, establish model monitoring, drift detection, performance benchmarking, and foundational incident response strategies.
• Convert unclear payment challenges into clearly defined modeling opportunities.
• Link model performance to key business metrics such as loss rates, approval/auth rates, dispute rates, and review efficiency.
• Provide mentorship to ML engineers and instill best practices for the future team.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and risk operations to manage and prioritize the ML roadmap.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in ML engineering, including at least 4 years of developing and deploying production models that influence significant business decisions.
• A proven history of owning modeling architecture and successfully guiding complex, irreversible decisions to production.
• Broad experience across various model types and problem framing; capable of creating a new model in an unfamiliar field.
• Demonstrated ability to transition models from prototype to production and manage them post-launch, which includes monitoring, retraining, and handling incidents.
• Profound understanding of modeling tradeoffs, including precision/recall versus operational costs, explainability, latency, and regulatory/compliance factors.
• Experience in establishing ML processes and infrastructure that can be adopted by a growing team.
• Proficient in communicating model behavior and business implications to stakeholders without ML expertise.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment.
• Familiarity with AWS ML tools such as SageMaker, feature stores, training/inference pipelines, and MLOps tools is a plus.
• Experience in payments, fintech, or lending is advantageous.
• An interest in progressing towards a leadership role is a plus.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
