Staff Machine Learning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design, prototype, and implement scalable machine learning and optimization models.

• Establish best practices in machine learning and set the strategic direction for the machine learning platform.

• Develop frameworks, pipelines, libraries, utilities, and tools to process large datasets for machine learning tasks.

• Collaborate with data scientists to diagnose and enhance complex data pipelines.

• Work alongside product managers and business partners to gather requirements for machine learning models.

• Create a model deployment platform that simplifies the implementation of new models.

• Construct end-to-end reusable pipelines from data acquisition to model output delivery.

• Mentor and support junior data scientists in deploying their models into production.

• Design and develop ML engineering solutions that enable new ML modeling capabilities for BetterHelp.

• Collaborate with Data Engineers, Software Engineers, Product Managers, and the Director of ML/Data Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in machine learning.

• Demonstrated experience in deploying and integrating machine learning models into production systems.

• Strong proficiency in machine learning techniques, including deep learning, neural networks, statistical modeling, tree-based methods, boosting, regression, and dimensionality reduction.

• Extensive experience in building personalization and recommendation systems.

• Familiarity with operations research concepts such as mathematical modeling, linear and integer programming, and discrete event simulation.

• Knowledge of large language models, fine-tuning techniques, and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF).

• Solid grounding in computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.

• Advanced skills in Python and SQL.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

• Experience in developing data pipelines and machine learning libraries/tools.

• Willingness to learn and adopt new technologies.

• Interest in mentoring junior machine learning engineers and data scientists.

• Comfortable in fast-paced, high-growth, and agile environments.
