Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Artificial Intelligence – Remote

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of the entire Machine Learning (ML) system execution, which includes managing data pipelines, training workflows, evaluation frameworks, inference architecture, and deployment.

• Refine and modify models utilizing techniques such as LoRA, QLoRA, SFT, DPO, and distillation.

• Design and manage scalable inference systems, ensuring a balance between latency, cost, and reliability.

• Create and sustain both synthetic and real-world training data systems.

• Implement evaluation pipelines that assess performance, robustness, safety, and bias.

• Manage production deployment, focusing on GPU optimization, memory efficiency, latency reduction, and scaling policies.

• Work collaboratively with application engineering to seamlessly integrate ML systems into backend, mobile, and desktop applications.

• Make practical trade-offs and deliver enhancements swiftly based on actual usage feedback.

• Quickly identify, debug, and resolve production issues while minimizing the impact on users.

• Support team members and facilitate high-impact ML delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building or delivering real Machine Learning (ML) systems that are actively used by individuals, not just prototypes.

• A background in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is essential.

• Familiarity with large models and an understanding of their potential failure modes is required.

• Strong experience in writing high-quality, production-level code.

• Self-motivated, practical, and capable of taking complete responsibility for results.

• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate well within small, trust-based teams.

• Experience with GPU-based training and inference systems.

• Proficiency in JAX, Python, and PyTorch.
