Staff Hardware Engineer – Secure Compute Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and collaborate on hardware-centric products for post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and Orbital Compute systems, encompassing both terrestrial and orbital models.

• Take ownership of power, thermal, and physical envelope design for computing hardware, which includes designing the enclosure.

• Develop bus interfaces and bus architecture for secure computing systems.

• Achieve the delivery of the initial hardware variant within a short time-to-market while simultaneously designing for large-scale hardware production.

• Ensure designs accommodate manufacturability, reliability, and environmental constraints such as radiation, vibration, and thermal-vacuum factors for orbital variants.

• Collaborate with software, security, and systems engineers to incorporate cryptographic and computing hardware into final products.

• Participate in hardware design reviews, including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).

• Contribute to FPGA-based design and integration when applicable.

• Deliver results iteratively and swiftly in a dynamic environment with considerable ambiguity.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

• A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in hardware or electrical engineering, taking computing or electronic hardware from concept to production.

• Proficiency in power and thermal design and analysis for electronic hardware.

• Experience with mechanical/physical envelope, packaging, and enclosure design.

• Knowledge in designing bus interfaces and architectures such as PCIe, Ethernet, or SpaceWire.

• Experience in sourcing components and collaborating with third-party vendors and contract manufacturers.

• Capability to deliver hardware within tight timelines while planning for manufacturability and scalability.

• Preferred experience in FPGA design using RTL and Verilog/VHDL.

• Preferred familiarity with space-qualified, radiation-hardened, or ruggedized hardware designed for extreme environments.

• Preferred experience with hardware security or cryptographic hardware including HSMs, secure elements, or TPMs.

• Preferred knowledge of relevant hardware, safety, and quality standards.

• Proven track record of achieving results in ambiguous, fast-paced settings.

• Strong judgment to proactively address challenges and positively influence difficult situations.

• Organizational skills to meet tight deadlines while delivering high-quality results.
