Staff Frontend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Design the architecture, quality, and developer experience of product interfaces utilized by customers and internal teams.

• Collaborate across product teams to ensure frontend systems are scalable, reliable, accessible, and efficient.

• Spearhead the transition from Svelte to React while coordinating the sequence of work with product delivery.

• Maintain and advance the design system in collaboration with the frontend guild.

• Provide support and direction for frontend initiatives across teams, encompassing application architecture, performance, testing strategies, developer experience, and reduction of technical debt.

• Enhance UX and UI quality through design reviews, reusable patterns, mentoring, and technical documentation.

• Identify and develop effective agentic AI tools and coding practices.

• Outline the frontend architecture, product domains, design system, team workflows, and delivery bottlenecks within the first 30 days.

• Deliver a structured analysis and proposal for a cross-team frontend initiative by the 60-day mark.

• Drive a systematic improvement to achieve measurable progress across teams by 90 days.

• Assist Senior Engineers in their growth through collaboration, code reviews, and shared ownership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience operating at a Staff level, with or without the formal title.

• Delivered systemic frontend or product-engineering enhancements across multiple teams.

• Extensive knowledge in modern frontend engineering.

• Proficient in TypeScript, component architecture, state management, design systems, accessibility, performance, testing, and sustainable application architecture.

• Regular use of AI coding tools and familiarity with agentic workflows.

• Informed perspective on the utility of AI coding tools and the requirements for agent collaboration in codebases.

• Capability to transform ambiguous workflows and business constraints into practical, elegant product experiences.

• Comfortable with reasoning across frontend, backend, APIs, infrastructure, observability, security, and compliance.

• Ability to drive cross-team change through credibility, clear communication, architectural reasoning, and stakeholder alignment.

• Competence to set technical direction and exert influence without formal authority.

• Skilled at managing diverse stakeholders and achieving consensus on complex technical decisions.

• Experience in mentoring engineers.

• Proficient in English, both written and spoken.

• Legal authorization to work in the European Union.

• Berlin residency or willingness to relocate to Berlin is required in the application form.
