This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Lead a team of 6-10 engineers, overseeing comprehensive technical execution.
• Propel the technical vision and strategy across distributed systems.
• Provide mentorship to junior and senior engineers, cultivating a culture of technical excellence.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on technical solutions.
• Guarantee secure coding practices and maintain platform reliability.
• Take ownership of the architecture for large-scale systems and make pivotal technical decisions.
• Convert railroad business requirements into scalable digital solutions.
• Establish engineering best practices, observability, and manage technical debt.
• Exhibit operational excellence by monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues, which includes participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Authorized to work in the US.
• At least 9 years of experience in software engineering and/or management.
• A minimum of 6 years' experience as an engineer.
• Over 6 years of programming experience in at least one modern language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, etc.).
• Experience with distributed systems and technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, API gateways, SQL/NoSQL/Graph databases, caching systems, and serverless platforms.
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and DevOps practices.
• Experience in building enterprise products using open-source platform and infrastructure technologies.
• Familiarity with observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
• Knowledge of secure coding practices and platform security principles.
• Ability to work within cross-functional teams and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
• Experience in participating in design reviews, incident retrospectives, or RFC processes.
• Proven ability to learn new technical concepts and adapt swiftly.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience in leading multiple teams and delivering cross-organizational platforms and products.
