Staff Engineer, Web Growth – Conversion

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement the technical strategy for Ground News' online platforms, focusing on user growth and subscription revenue.

• Oversee the marketing technology stack (currently utilizing Unbounce, with plans to transition to Framer): lead the migration and establish guidelines.

• Manage the web experimentation program from start to finish.

• Ensure optimal web performance, accessibility, SEO, and Core Web Vitals for a consumer-facing platform that serves millions of readers.

• Provide senior-level input in code review and architectural decisions within the frontend chapter.

• Implement safe rollout practices on Flightcontrol for revenue-critical components.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in building production-level web applications, with at least 3 years in a senior or staff individual contributor role.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Next.js, React, and TypeScript, having developed and launched projects at scale.

• A proven, quantifiable history of increasing user base or revenue for a web property.

• Practical experience in executing A/B or multivariate experiments from start to finish: including hypothesis formulation, sample sizing, accurate measurement, and honest interpretation of results.

• Direct experience collaborating with or within a CRO function, and familiarity with marketing technology tools (such as Unbounce, Framer, Webflow, or comparable platforms).

• Familiarity with PostHog, Amplitude, or Segment, with the capability to create reliable funnel instrumentation from the ground up.

• Experience in deploying to production on revenue-critical surfaces, employing feature flagging, monitoring, and rollback protocols.
