Staff Engineer – Distributed Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, architect, and develop robust and scalable systems for the global delivery of feature flags, ensuring high availability and low latency.

• Take ownership of the global edge delivery network, streaming infrastructure, and data synchronization protocols, driving their evolution.

• Enhance system availability, performance, and operational excellence by identifying bottlenecks and planning for potential failures.

• Collaborate effectively with teams across infrastructure, SDK, product, and security domains.

• Mentor and guide engineers in the development of distributed systems, code quality, and systems thinking methodologies.

• Lead incident response efforts and conduct post-incident reviews to bolster reliability and observability.

• Participate in an on-call rotation, ensuring accountability for service uptime and reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of relevant industry experience, with a multi-year practical focus on distributed systems.

• Proven experience in architecting, building, and maintaining complex, large-scale backend and infrastructure services.

• In-depth knowledge of event-driven architectures, streaming protocols such as Server-Sent Events and WebSockets, and scalable stateful connection management.

• Proficiency in Go, Java, Rust, or other similar systems programming languages.

• Familiarity with real-time data pipelines, load balancing, and global edge networks/CDNs.

• Experience with monitoring, observability, operational excellence, comprehensive telemetry, actionable alerting, and SLOs aimed at ensuring low latency and high availability.

• Background in operating systems within cloud environments like AWS or GCP, utilizing infrastructure-as-code tools.

• Experience with distributed data stores and caching systems such as Redis, DynamoDB, Kafka, or Varnish.

• Demonstrated technical leadership in setting strategic direction, breaking down complex challenges, and influencing outcomes across teams.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
