Staff Engineer – DevX

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the complete developer experience for approximately 80 engineers, focusing on CI, build tools, codebase health, deployment strategies, and the AI-supported development cycle.

• Drive the initiative to double R&D productivity per engineer and implement significant performance metrics.

• Remain actively engaged by delivering actual pull requests across various languages and services, while making low-risk, high-impact adjustments in unfamiliar codebases.

• Foster credibility and build relationships within the engineering team, secure support, and eliminate obstacles for teams outside of your direct supervision.

• Assess, implement, and evaluate agentic coding tools while enhancing their effective application.

⛳️ Requirements

• A robust software engineering background with hands-on production experience.

• Previous involvement within a platform engineering organization, or a proven record of leading AI and developer tooling initiatives on an engineering team.

• Demonstrated success in making engineering teams significantly faster, along with a clear understanding of what strategies were effective, what were not, and the reasons behind these outcomes.

• Experience dealing with significant scale.

• Strong proficiency with agentic coding tools, along with sound judgment regarding when to rely on, correct, or bypass them.

• Leadership capabilities to influence others without direct management.

• High adaptability for experimenting with new approaches and taking calculated risks.

• Comfort in navigating ambiguity related to performance measurement.

• Extensive experience with CI/CD, particularly in resolving issues and accelerating slow pipelines.

• Background in high-performance engineering settings.

• Familiarity with a variety of programming languages and technology stacks.

• Experience in tracking and reporting on developer productivity.
