This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee and enhance AvalancheGo, the software that powers the Avalanche network, while managing contributions from the team and community.
• Maintain the merge bar for network-essential code and ensure backward compatibility for node operators and downstream Avalanche L1 developers.
• Establish and uphold high production-quality engineering standards.
• Design, develop, and improve consensus mechanisms, P2P networking, state management and synchronization, the VM interface, and EVM integrations.
• Set observability standards, establish node-performance SLOs, and lead incident reviews and postmortems.
• Take ownership of versioning, upgrade coordination, backward compatibility, staged rollouts, and the quality of testing for network-critical code.
• Mentor senior engineers, conduct design reviews, and disseminate technical context throughout the team.
• Author ADRs, release notes, and technical communications; engage with external contributors.
• Initiate and advocate for Avalanche Community Proposals and prepare AvalancheGo for protocol upgrades.
• Over 8 years of software engineering experience, including a minimum of 3 years at a staff or lead level or equivalent responsibility.
• Proficient in Go, encompassing goroutines, channels, race detector, pprof, benchmarking, dependency management, and idiomatic API design.
• Extensive open-source experience as a maintainer or a long-term core contributor on a widely utilized project.
• A documented history of code reviews, RFCs/design documents, and community involvement.
• Practical experience in designing, shipping, and operating distributed systems at scale.
• Familiarity with consensus or replication, P2P networking, state synchronization, or similar high-availability systems.
• Strong discipline in testing, including unit, property-based/fuzz, integration, and end-to-end network testing.
• Experience in building CI that enforces testing standards; GitHub Actions is preferred.
• Knowledge of semantic versioning, backward compatibility, migration paths, and coordinated network upgrades.
• Working knowledge of Linux-based infrastructure, Docker/Kubernetes, and observability tools like Prometheus/Grafana.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
