Staff Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Define the technical direction and architecture for key components of the backend platform, converting ambiguous product objectives into a solid, scalable technical strategy.

• Design and develop dependable systems and applications within a fully distributed microservices architecture, exemplifying engineering excellence.

• Create and uphold integrations with third-party vendors and partners.

• Design and build highly available RESTful APIs that support web and mobile applications for users.

• Establish reusable patterns, frameworks, and libraries that guarantee scalability and expedite future product development.

• Implement observability best practices, utilizing tools such as logging, metrics, and alerting systems.

• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture designs, APIs, workflows, and system configurations.

• Continuously assess systems for opportunities to enhance performance and scalability.

• Guide engineers and elevate the technical standards within the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• You possess a minimum of 8 years of professional engineering experience, with a proven track record at a staff or principal level.

• You have extensive experience in designing and developing innovative fintech products, ideally from inception to scaling.

• You excel in system design and thrive in a dynamic environment, balancing rapid execution with long-term technical viability.

• You demonstrate a strong capability to take ownership of large, unclear initiatives, driving them from concept to completion while proactively identifying challenges and solutions.

• You possess excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence decisions across teams.

• You are well-versed in complex, large-scale distributed systems.

• Proficient in backend programming languages such as Go/Golang and Python.

• Strong expertise in designing and developing RESTful APIs.

• Knowledgeable in SQL and NoSQL database technologies, including data model design and optimization.

• Demonstrated experience in building reliable and scalable user-facing applications.

• Proficient in message queuing systems like Kafka (preferred), RabbitMQ, or Flink.

• Familiarity with cloud technologies including AWS/Azure/GCP, serverless architectures, Docker, Kubernetes, and ECS, among others.

• Effective release management skills to ensure zero downtime and experience with CI/CD frameworks like GitLab CI and GitHub actions.
