Staff Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage scalable full-stack systems, primarily focusing on backend services utilizing TypeScript/Node.js and Python, along with contributions to React frontend applications.

• Create and enhance APIs, services, and data models.

• Contribute to cloud infrastructure, ensuring reliability and production readiness.

• Engage in technical design and architectural discussions for building scalable, maintainable, and resilient systems.

• Assess trade-offs, identify risks, and translate strategic direction into practical technical solutions.

• Decompose complex projects into actionable phases and implementation strategies.

• Work collaboratively with product teams and leadership to refine concepts and deliver well-defined releases.

• Manage backlog grooming, coordinate workstreams, and align technical contributions.

• Mentor fellow engineers through code reviews, collaborative coding sessions, and design discussions.

• Establish engineering standards and streamlined processes, address new challenges, and organize ambiguous tasks.

• Report directly to the VP of Innovation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in building and operating production software systems.

• Strong expertise in backend development using TypeScript (Node.js) and Python.

• Proven experience in creating and maintaining production-quality APIs and services.

• Proficient in TypeScript/JavaScript and React for frontend development.

• Familiarity with designing and evolving production-quality API and service interfaces.

• Experience with relational databases and production data models.

• Background in building and managing systems on AWS or similar cloud platforms.

• Solid understanding of system design, scalability, and architectural considerations.

• Proven track record of contributing to design and delivery decisions within small, high-responsibility teams.

• Experience with or eagerness to learn modern AI-assisted tools.
