Staff Engineer – AI-Native

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Define measurable specification standards, encompassing preconditions, postconditions, invariants, and Given/When/Then scenarios.

• Maintain the context utilized by agents, which includes AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, along with skills and constraints.

• Decompose intricate problems into manageable units that can be executed by agents and verified by humans.

• Coordinate multiple agents, isolated worktrees, and manage handoffs effectively.

• Set policies with teams on what tasks to delegate to AI and what responsibilities should remain with human personnel.

• Develop strategies for testing, evaluations, mutation testing, and benchmarking procedures.

• Guide code reviews focusing on intent and associated risks.

• Ensure stringent Continuous Integration (CI), branch protection, CODEOWNERS, small batch deliveries, and facilitate easy rollbacks.

• Design agents with unique identities, applying least-privilege access, sandboxing, and layered defense mechanisms.

• Advance the shared engineering harness, which includes instructions, tools, hooks, and skills.

• Define levels of autonomy for agents in production, including progressive authorization, dry runs, and immediate shutdown protocols.

• Treat each agent as a service, establishing Service Level Objectives (SLOs), observability, and contingency plans.

• Implement AI in playbooks, anomaly detection, root-cause analysis (RCA), postmortem documentation, and incident handoffs.

• Proactively mentor junior and mid-level engineers while maintaining foundational learning pathways.

• Communicate AI limitations, risks, and benefits to leadership and business teams, supporting technical decision-making with data.

⛳️ Requirements

• Robust software engineering background, acting as a technical authority (Staff, Principal, or Tech Lead) on high-scale production systems.

• Solid foundations in architecture, data structures, invariants, and security boundaries.

• Significant, proven daily use of AI agents in software development processes.

• Expertise in context engineering and specification-driven development.

• Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated testing, and evaluations.

• Capability to design verification strategies for code generated by AI.

• Proficiency in Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), version control, branch protection, and small-batch delivery techniques.

• Experience with operating systems, emphasizing observability, SLOs, incident response, and postmortem analysis.

• Applied security knowledge, including least privilege, isolation, and identity and secrets management.

• Systems and risk-oriented mindset, concentrating on business and user outcomes.

• Excellent communication skills with technical teams, leadership, and business stakeholders.

• A genuine desire to mentor others.

• Preferred: experience in orchestrating multiple agents and sustaining a shared harness across different teams.

• Preferred: background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or platform engineering, governance of production agents, and ongoing evaluations, including LLM-as-a-Judge.

• Preferred: familiarity with mutation testing, performance benchmarking, or resilience testing methodologies.

• Preferred: documented projects created with agents, focusing on security and resistance to attacks.

• Preferred: experience in payments, fintech, telecommunications, or environments with high-volume transactions.

• Preferred: a history of developing engineers and creating technical learning pathways.
