Staff Database Reliability Engineer – DBRE

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Regularly assess and optimize essential PostgreSQL configuration settings to enhance resource efficiency and align with workload demands.

• Anticipate future resource requirements based on application expansion and agent usage patterns, and suggest scaling strategies.

• Create, execute, and oversee monitoring dashboards and alert systems for latency, throughput, connection counts, and cache hit rates.

• Develop, implement, and sustain indexing strategies, identifying and eliminating redundant or underperforming indexes.

• Execute and manage database partitioning and organize database sharding as required.

• Collaborate with the SRE team to improve PostgreSQL deployments in Azure.

• Offer technical expertise to application teams regarding query, schema, and index design.

• Support databases that are vital to the Huntress Security Platform and millions of endpoint agents.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in scaling, configuring, maintaining, and managing PostgreSQL clusters in production settings.

• Proficient in designing, implementing, and supporting replication, failover strategies, and robust backup/recovery plans.

• In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL's core architecture, including WAL, transaction management, locking mechanisms, and autovacuum processes.

• Extensive practical experience in managing and maintaining large-scale PostgreSQL databases (Terabyte-level or high-transaction volume) in a live, 24/7 production environment.

• Familiarity with observability tools such as DataDog and NewRelic.

• Strong experience in tuning critical performance metrics.

• Knowledge of NoSQL data models for technologies like MongoDB, Redis, or Cassandra (bonus).

• Understanding of when to utilize an RDB and when not to (bonus).

• Experience with infrastructure as code (bonus).
