
Staff Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more countries.
β’ Spearhead the migration of product workloads.
β’ Provide product engineers with a definitive guide on "where should this data reside and how can I access it?"
β’ Create reusable components, including data-sync tools, ORM best practices, and reviews of access patterns, schemas, and indexes, to prevent teams from duplicating efforts.
β’ Gradually enhance the product-data platform to incorporate caching, search capabilities, and event streaming.
β’ Practical experience in managing databases within the product, including ownership of OLTP access patterns, indexing, query optimization, and schema design for user-facing applications.
β’ Proficient in both coding within the product stack and conducting thorough analysis at the database level.
β’ Extensive knowledge of a major relational database engine (Postgres is highly preferred) in high-volume production environments; experience in workload migrations (e.g., from MongoDB to Postgres) is a significant advantage.
β’ Expertise in schema design, indexing, query optimization, and performing zero-downtime migrations on large, live tables.
β’ Experience in scaling systems to handle substantial traffic and data growth, particularly in domains where understanding access patterns at scale is crucial, such as advertising analytics, fintech/trading systems, large-scale consumer SaaS, or marketplaces.
β’ Strong software engineering skills β able to write, review, and deliver production code beyond just SQL.

β’ Experience in developing shared platform components, such as data-sync tools, ORM best practices, caching (Redis), search, or event streaming/queues.
