Staff Backend Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Serve as a technical authority at Aurum, enhancing the architectural framework of Astrea, the company’s primary product.

• Spearhead initiatives that engage multiple teams, converting business goals into sustainable engineering choices.

• Direct and refine cross-team architectural decisions with an emphasis on resilience.

• Execute essential solutions and oversee the advancement of the technology stack.

• Provide mentorship to developers regarding industry best practices.

• Aid in the enhancement of observability and monitoring systems.

• Collaborate with peer teams to devise solutions for internal stakeholders.

• Establish and communicate quality standards, design patterns, and guidelines for security and performance throughout the technology organization.

• Elevate the quality of code reviews, automated test coverage, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Operate with a high level of expertise in coding, architecture, and observability beyond that of a Senior level.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with Java, Kotlin, various databases (MongoDB, DataStore, PostgreSQL), Spring Boot, AWS, microservices, distributed systems, Kafka, SNS, SQS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Grafana, Prometheus, unit testing, CI/CD, Amazon Kiro, Claude, Codex, and New Relic.

• Proven experience with mission-critical, high-availability systems that manage high-scale data and event processing.

• Profound understanding of software architecture and domain-driven design.

• Practical experience with monitoring, observability, and system metrics.

• Experience in evolving microservices, developing APIs, and integrating with asynchronous messaging.

• Familiarity with engineering practices: Linting, GitFlow, Clean Code, and Design Patterns.

• Background in incident management and leading response plans (post-mortem).

• Capability to exert technical influence through clear and assertive communication.

• Effective communication skills to align expectations and negotiate deadlines with both technical and business stakeholders.

• Strong organizational, planning, and task/project management abilities.

• Aptitude for understanding service integrations and preventing architectural bottlenecks.

• Initiative and ownership in identifying technical debt and opportunities for architectural enhancements.

• Plus: experience with AI platform architecture applied to products, advanced observability (APM, tracing, SLOs).

• Plus: familiarity with productivity strategies and experience on a Staff/Principal career path within medium/large SaaS products.

• Plus: automation of development processes using AI, including the generation of unit tests, code reviews, spec-driven development, ADRs, and RFCs.
