Staff Backend Engineer – Mimir Query, Databases

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Shape the roadmap and individual career goals.

• Collaborate with the team to implement new features and enhance them iteratively.

• Lead projects from conceptualization through to operations following customer release.

• Contribute to open-source initiatives beyond the immediate team’s jurisdiction.

• Design, construct, operate, and maintain essential systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and availability.

• Engage in follow-the-sun on-call rotations and take ownership of operated services.

• Assist team members, participate in design discussions, and work collaboratively with the team.

• Develop a deep understanding of Grafana Cloud, customer needs, and a vast distributed-system codebase.

• Write and evaluate pull requests and design documentation.

• Oversee automated release rollouts.

• Enhance the efficiency and resilience of processing, storing, and querying metrics at scale.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates must be located in USA time zones.

• Strong experience with at least one programming language; proficiency in Go is preferred, but Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar languages are also acceptable.

• Proven experience in leading and executing projects from requirements gathering to customer delivery.

• Background in developing cloud software or systems engineering.

• Familiarity with on-call duties and the DevOps model.

• Proficient in writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable code.

• Knowledge of observability systems and leveraging metrics, logs, and traces for debugging purposes.

• Comfort with microservices architecture and distributed systems.

• Experience and confidence in developing with Large Language Models (LLMs) such as Claude and Codex.

• A pragmatic, self-motivated, and customer-centric approach with excellent time management skills.

• Strong communication and collaboration abilities within a fully remote work environment.

• Bonus: Experience with Kubernetes.

• Bonus: Familiarity with queue systems like Kafka protocol.

• Bonus: Operational experience with Grafana and Prometheus.
