Staff Backend Engineer – Mimir Query, Databases

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

• Shape the direction of the team’s roadmap and your personal career goals.

• Introduce new features and refine them based on performance metrics.

• Lead projects from conception to customer operations.

• Engage in open-source initiatives that extend beyond the immediate team’s focus.

• Design, develop, operate, and sustain essential systems.

• Ensure the reliability, performance, and availability of systems.

• Participate in on-call rotations, following the sun model.

• Take responsibility for the services you operate.

• Assist team members and actively engage in design discussions.

• Collaborate with the team to enhance your understanding of Grafana Cloud, our customers, and a vast distributed-system codebase.

• Write and critique pull requests and design documentation.

• Oversee automated release deployments.

• Enhance the efficiency and resilience of metrics processing, storage, and querying.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong experience in at least one programming language; proficiency in Go is preferred, with experience in Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar languages being advantageous.

• Proven ability to lead and deliver projects from gathering requirements to customer-facing product launches.

• Experience in developing cloud software or systems engineering.

• Familiarity with on-call responsibilities and the DevOps approach.

• Skilled in writing clean, efficient, robust, and maintainable code.

• Knowledge of observability tools and utilizing metrics, logs, and traces for troubleshooting.

• Comfort with microservices architecture and distributed systems.

• Experience and proficiency in developing with LLMs such as Claude and Codex.

• Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate in a fully remote environment.

• Experience with Kubernetes is a plus.

• Familiarity with queue systems, like the Kafka protocol, is preferred.

• Operational experience with Grafana and Prometheus is a bonus.

• Knowledge of infrastructure as code is an added advantage.
