Staff Backend Engineer – Grafana Second Horizon

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and manage backend services for context ingestion, indexing, retrieval orchestration, API access, source configuration, and system administration.

• Define and construct a scalable multi-tenant SaaS architecture that incorporates tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and reliable service boundaries.

• Create APIs and service interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications to access context, provenance, confidence signals, and alerts.

• Collaborate across product and infrastructure teams to find a balance between experimentation and long-term reliability.

• Implement services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards.

• Utilize observability tools to gain insights into system behavior and enhance reliability.

• Influence architecture, service boundaries, storage selections, API contracts, deployment patterns, and engineering practices.

• Take charge of innovative AI solutions, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with user workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong experience in developing production-grade, user-facing software systems.

• Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks.

• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and the development of GenAI-powered applications.

• A proven history of delivering software into production with active user engagement.

• Exposure to cloud-native environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Experience utilizing observability tools to analyze and troubleshoot system behavior.

• Experience in building or working with agent frameworks or multi-agent workflows is an advantage.

• Experience as a data analyst or with data platforms like Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, Snowflake, or DataBricks is a plus.

• Experience in creating tools for data engineering is a bonus.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity, take ownership, iterate swiftly, and communicate effectively.
