Staff Backend Engineer – Grafana

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, test, and manage backend services for context ingestion, indexing, retrieval orchestration, API access, source configuration, and system administration.

• Define and develop a scalable multi-tenant SaaS architecture that includes tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and dependable service boundaries.

• Create APIs and service interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications to access context, provenance, confidence signals, and alerts.

• Balance practical trade-offs between swift experimentation and long-term reliability as the project transitions from prototype to production.

• Equip services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards for comprehensive monitoring.

• Utilize observability tools to gain insights into system behavior and enhance reliability.

• Influence architecture, service boundaries, storage selections, API agreements, deployment patterns, and engineering methodologies.

• Assume responsibility for AI solutions, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with actual user workflows.

• Collaborate effectively across product, infrastructure, and engineering teams.

• Strong experience in building production-grade, user-focused software systems.

• Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks.

• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and developing applications driven by GenAI.

• Established history of delivering software into production that is actively used by users.

• Exposure to cloud-native environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Proficiency in using observability tools to analyze and troubleshoot system behavior.

• Capability to address complex engineering challenges and make UI design decisions with minimal oversight.

• Comfort with releasing prototypes, gathering feedback, and iterating in a pragmatic manner.

• Demonstrated initiative, ownership, and the ability to define scope amidst uncertainty.

• Effective communication skills and a collaborative working style.
