
Staff Backend Engineer – Grafana

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany, +4 more countries.
• Design, develop, test, and manage backend services for context ingestion, indexing, retrieval orchestration, API access, source configuration, and system administration.
• Establish and construct a scalable multi-tenant SaaS architecture featuring tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and dependable service boundaries.
• Create APIs and service interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications to access context, provenance, confidence signals, and alerts.
• Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to strike a balance between experimentation and long-term reliability.
• Equip services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards.
• Contribute to the architecture, service boundaries, storage decisions, API agreements, deployment strategies, and engineering methodologies.
• Assume ownership of AI solutions, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with user workflows.
• Work asynchronously and collaboratively across teams in a highly independent environment.
• Extensive experience in developing production-grade, user-facing software systems.
• Knowledge of AI technologies and frameworks.
• Background in LLMs, prompt engineering, and developing GenAI-powered applications.
• Proven success in delivering software utilized by users in production environments.
• Familiarity with cloud-native platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with observability tools to analyze and troubleshoot system performance.
• Capability to navigate ambiguity, define project scope, and make practical architectural choices.
• Experience in building or engaging with agent frameworks or multi-agent workflows (preferred).
• Background as a data analyst or with data platforms like Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, Snowflake, or DataBricks (preferred).
• Experience in creating tools for data engineering (preferred).
