Staff Backend Engineer – Ads Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define the technical trajectory for the agentic Growth Engine by making architectural choices regarding systems that produce creatives, enhance bids and budgets, and oversee audiences across Google, Meta, and various other paid channels.

• Engage in hands-on coding and code review, establishing engineering standards for quality, availability, and system performance throughout the platform.

• Collaborate closely with Marketing, Product, and Design teams to translate growth goals into platform functionalities, and to outline the human-in-the-loop mechanisms that ensure autonomous campaigns remain safe and aligned with brand values.

• Propel the AI-assisted → agentic → autonomous roadmap forward, pinpointing opportunities for automation and mitigating risks through experimentation and phased rollouts.

• Guide and mentor engineers, serving as a force multiplier by enhancing the team's capabilities through design evaluations, technical advice, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work culture.

• Work alongside ML/AI and data platform teams to optimize campaign performance through models and signals, and integrate thoroughly with the Airbnb product to gain insights into the customer journey.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 9 years of experience in a hands-on software engineering position.

• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree, ideally in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

• Technical leadership: practical experience in leading project teams, establishing technical direction and strategy, and mentoring fellow engineers.

• Strong enthusiasm for efficiency, availability, technical excellence, and system quality.

• A desire to uplift those around you through curiosity and by nurturing a collaborative and inclusive team atmosphere.

• Demonstrated experience in defining product/technical strategy and achieving alignment with cross-functional leaders and stakeholders.

• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a track record of spearheading initiatives that traverse teams, departments, and leadership levels.

• Bonus - Practical experience with paid advertising platforms (Meta, Google, or similar) — possessing an understanding of how the ecosystem operates beyond just the engineering aspects.
