Staff Android Engineer, Pick & Deliver

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead the technical strategy and implementation of Android experiences that assist retailers and shoppers during order picking.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Android applications utilizing Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and RxJava.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend Engineering, iOS Engineering, retailers, and external vendors to address complex operational and customer requirements.

• Take ownership of projects from the technical discovery phase to final delivery.

• Balance retailer demands with considerations for platform health, scalability, and maintainability.

• Enhance performance, reliability, observability, and developer experience through profiling, instrumentation, architectural enhancements, and reduction of technical debt.

• Lead design discussions and establish engineering best practices.

• Mentor engineers and guide teams in making sustainable technical decisions.

• Contribute to roadmaps that include new picking models, retailer and market expansion, Android platform investments, and operational scalability.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years in professional software engineering, with significant experience in developing and delivering Android applications.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin.

• Familiarity with Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and reactive programming using RxJava or a similar framework.

• Experience in leading intricate, cross-functional software projects from design to production launch.

• Proficiency in designing maintainable Android architectures.

• Background in enhancing application performance, reliability, testing, monitoring, or observability.

• Capability to collaborate with Product, Design, Backend Engineering, iOS Engineering, and external parties.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Preferred: experience in retail, logistics, fulfillment, delivery, workforce, or operational settings.

• Preferred: experience supporting multiple product teams, retailers, markets, or high-priority initiatives.

• Preferred: skills in Android performance profiling, startup optimization, crash reduction, instrumentation, or extensive observability.

• Preferred: knowledge of mobile platform strategy, shared components, developer tools, or the migration to modern Android technologies.

• Preferred: experience mentoring engineers and shaping technical direction across teams.

• Preferred: experience working with external partners, vendors, or enterprise clients.
