Staff Analytics Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical vision for Coinbase’s financial data infrastructure.

• Collaborate with Accounting and FP&A during month-end and quarter-end closing processes.

• Create datasets, reconciliations, and reporting to ensure accurate and timely financial closures.

• Prepare financial data and pipelines to be audit-ready through SOX-compliant controls, lineage, change management, and audit documentation.

• Design and maintain well-documented, curated source-of-truth financial datasets in Snowflake/Databricks.

• Develop and manage scalable batch and near-real-time data pipelines using Airflow/dbt.

• Oversee dependencies, backfills, and runbooks.

• Define frameworks for data quality and reconciliation that include testing, monitoring, alerting, and SLAs.

• Establish data contracts with upstream engineering teams.

• Provide mentorship to Analytics Engineers.

• Create Python packages, UDFs, and LLM-assisted tools for financial data users.

⛳️ Requirements

• Background in accounting through an accounting/finance degree or coursework, CPA/CMA certification, or practical experience with Accounting/FP&A teams.

• Proficient in SQL, including window functions, complex aggregations, and performance optimization.

• Strong skills in Python, including object-oriented programming and the development of reusable frameworks.

• Experience in production ETL or SQL is not required.

• Extensive experience in data modeling, particularly with star/snowflake schemas and slowly changing dimensions (SCDs).

• Proven experience in building and managing production ETL/ELT pipelines with dbt, Airflow, or similar tools, including testing, monitoring, and SLAs.

• Familiarity with modern data warehouse/lakehouse technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar.

• Staff-level experience leading multi-quarter, cross-team technical projects, determining architecture and direction, and mentoring engineers.
