Specialist Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Manage, oversee, and enhance relational databases hosted on AWS, focusing primarily on Amazon Aurora MySQL 8.0 at scale, along with Aurora PostgreSQL, Amazon DocumentDB, and SQL Server.

• Spearhead both major and minor engine version upgrades while minimizing impact.

• Standardize database versions across an environment with multiple releases.

• Ensure high availability and zone resilience utilizing Multi-AZ, read replicas, and cross-cluster replicas.

• Maintain recovery strategies, encompassing backup/restore procedures along with RTO/RPO objectives.

• Operate AWS DMS as a production continuous replication (CDC) pipeline, ensuring stability across dozens to hundreds of tasks.

• Integrate data pipelines with Amazon Kinesis and data lakes.

• Administer Amazon ElastiCache for Redis solutions, focusing on resilience, automatic failover, Multi-AZ deployment, and appropriate sizing.

• Conduct performance tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing, and capacity planning.

• Lead initiatives for data security hardening, including encryption, secret management and rotation, access reviews, and assessments of network exposure.

• Support data governance and segregation within the frameworks of PCI and BACEN/Open Banking regulations.

• Participate in audits, GMUDs, and respond to database incidents.

• Document processes, create SQL/Shell/Python automations, and advocate for best practices.

• Function within an infrastructure-as-code environment leveraging Terraform.

• Assist engineering, data, and product teams with high-availability, engine modernization, security hardening, and operational continuity projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

• Significant experience as a DBA in mission-critical, high-density production settings.

• Advanced expertise in Amazon Aurora MySQL at scale, including practical experience with major engine upgrades with minimal downtime.

• Familiarity with managed databases in the AWS cloud (RDS/Aurora).

• Preferred experience with PostgreSQL, DocumentDB, and SQL Server.

• Experience with AWS DMS as a production pipeline for continuous replication (CDC).

• Advanced understanding of high availability, Multi-AZ, replication, backup/restore, and disaster recovery strategies.

• Experience with Amazon ElastiCache for Redis, covering aspects such as topology, cluster mode, failover, and Multi-AZ deployment.

• Knowledge of data security measures, including encryption (KMS), secret management and rotation (Secrets Manager), and least privilege access control.

• Experience in regulated environments (PCI, BACEN, Open Banking).

• Advanced understanding of performance tuning and capacity metrics analysis (CloudWatch, Performance Insights).

• Familiarity with automation (SQL/Shell/Python) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).

• Preferred: experience with Amazon Redshift, Glue/Athena, and DynamoDB.

• Preferred: experience with PostgreSQL, DocumentDB, and SQL Server.
